Climbing to the top!

Stage IV students concluded their train tour of the Northeast by climbing the stairs of the Empire State Building in New York City. Students stepped in place (feet had to come at least one foot off the ground) for five minutes. We were exhausted from the climb!

P.S. there are 18 steps in a flight with 102 total floors. That is 1860 stairs from the ground to the 102 floor observatory.

Hershey's Chocolate, here we come!

On day two of our northeastern train tour, students visited Boston Mass. the site of the first battle of the Revolutionary War. Traveling west to New York state, we saw a portion of the Erie Canal. Our last stop of the day was at the Hershey Chocolate Factory in Hershey PA. While here students learned about mass production. We created a small assembly line where students cut foil, placed the candy, and then wrapped the candy. Each team had three minutes to wrap as much candy as possible. Our classes combined wrapped 301 pieces of candy in a total of just fifteen minutes! That's a lot of chocolates!

All Aboard!

Students are taking a train ride through the Northeastern states to learn about the regional geography of the area as well as some very interesting history. We will be making nine stops along our way. Students in Sarah's classes visited West Quoddy Head Lighthouse in Maine (the point farthest east in the United States), heading west we stumbled into Mt. Washington in the state of New Hampshire. Mt. Washington is a part of the White Mountains...ask your favorite Stage IV student what large mountain range the White Mountains are apart of. We concluded our first leg of the trip in Plymouth Massachusetts! Next week we will head to Boston, Hershey, and New York City. Students in Elise's classes will begin their train ride too!
